A classical concert for young adults – no dress code, but with everything that makes for a special evening.
With its concert series ‘Bock auf Klassik?!’ (Fancy some classical music?), the Gürzenich Orchestra Cologne invites everyone under the age of 29 to an evening that offers a new way of experiencing classical music: accessible, lively and surprisingly different. For just 8€, you can enjoy great works by Mahler and Schubert, a personal presentation throughout the evening – and afterwards, a musical finale with a DJ, free drinks and a relaxed atmosphere in the foyer.
An evening like something out of a fairy tale: Maurice Ravel kicks things off with his Le Tombeau de Couperin, whose artful movements shine with elegance and dance-like lightness in Gianluca Cascioli's orchestration. This is followed by Hector Berlioz's song cycle Les nuits d'été. In these musical dreams, longing, love and melancholy unfold in dazzling colours – a touching journey through the soulscapes of Romanticism. The highlight is Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov's symphonic suite Scheherazade. With lush soundscapes and oriental magic, it tells the fantastic stories from One Thousand and One Nights – an orchestral fairy tale full of glamour, excitement and seduction.
The evening is far from over after the last note: the party continues in the foyer with a DJ set by Cologne-based artist no:elia, who provides a stylish musical change of pace with rhythmic beats, breaks and soul influences. It's not a club night, but definitely a place to stay, listen, chat and continue the party.
