To play in an orchestra just once – for many people in Cologne, this dream comes true in the Cologne Citizens’ Orchestra. The initiative is a labour of love for the musicians of the Gürzenich Orchestra: over 40 of them work with the participants to rehearse the pieces and prepare them for the joint concert at the Cologne Philharmonic Hall. Playing side by side with professionals is hugely motivating and great fun. Because in rehearsals, you don’t just learn a lot – there’s plenty to laugh about too! The musical ability of the amateur musicians varies greatly. Parts that are too difficult are simplified. And the experienced musicians help the less experienced ones. The philosophy is: there is no competition.
