Music should be for everyone – regardless of where you come from, how old you are or whether you regularly attend concerts. For the Gürzenich Orchestra, this also means leaving the concert halls and philharmonic venues and going where the people are.
In an interview with the Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger, Chief Conductor Andrés Orozco-Estrada talks about the importance of music education and how an orchestra can take on social responsibility. He discusses his own experiences in Medellín, where music played an important role in his life even as a child, and his conviction that making music together can bring people together and open up new perspectives.

Through outreach concerts in nurseries, projects in schools and youth centres, and a range of activities for families and children, the Gürzenich-Orchestra aims to reach as many people in Cologne as possible. The aim is not only to introduce people to classical music, but also to foster connections and break down barriers.
