»Die neue Akademie« (The New Academy) delves into Beethoven’s universe of sound, combining impressive moments from his piano and orchestral music with contemporary voices which bring Beethoven’s visionary spirit to life. The centre of this personal exploration of Beethoven is the celebrated pianist Pierre-Laurent Aimard, who makes his home in Cologne.
Music by Ludwig van Beethoven, Helmut Lachenmann, Bernd Alois Zimmermann and world premieres by Francesco Filidei and Isabel Mundry, the work of Isabel Mundry is commissioned by the Guerzenich Orchestra and Kunststiftung NRW.
