Benjamin Joost-Meyer zu Bakum

Bass trombone - Orchestra Academy

Benjamin Joost-Meyer zu Bakum is a German bass trombonist and has been an academy member of the Gürzenich Orchestra Cologne since the 2024/25 season.

He completed his pre-college studies and bachelor’s degree at the Hochschule für Musik Detmold, studying with Prof. Otmar Strobel and Tino Mönks. An Erasmus semester took him to the Royal Conservatory in The Hague, where he studied with Ben van Dijk. He began his master’s studies with Prof. Fabrice Millischer at the Hochschule für Musik Freiburg.

Benjamin is the third prize winner of the 2024 Jeju International Bass Trombone Competition and the 2024 Trombone Quartet Competition in Strasbourg. He also won second prize at the Wind Interpretation Competition of the Alumni Association as well as the GFF at the Hochschule für Musik Detmold with the Leborts Quartet.

Additionally, Benjamin served as chair of the general student committee at both the Hochschule für Musik Detmold and Freiburg. Since 2024, he has been a provisional member of the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie (Young German Philharmonic).
