Carsten Luz

Associate Principal Trombone

Carsten Luz was born in 1975 in Essen. At the age of 14, he was the youngest founding member of the Lower Saxony State Youth Jazz Orchestra. He studied at the Cologne University of Music with Michel Becquet, Johann Voithofer, and Ulrich Flad. After temporary contracts in Gelsenkirchen and Hagen, he secured a permanent position as principal trombonist in Dortmund in 2001. Since 2002, he has held the same position with the Gürzenich Orchestra Cologne.

As a member of the Quadriga Trombone Quartet, he received awards at the 4th International Jan Koetsier Competition as well as at the Brass Ensemble Competition in Passau. Carsten Luz is a lecturer at the Cologne University of Music and Dance and a trombone instructor at the Rheinische Musikschule Cologne.
