Demetrius Polyzoides

Demetrius Polyzoides was born into a musical family. He learned the fundamental principles of violin pedagogy from his father, Christos Polyzoides. He studied violin with Harald Himmel in Graz and Franz Samohyl in Vienna, graduating with unanimous distinction. He then pursued viola studies with Hatto Beyerle, as well as masterclasses with Arthur Grumiaux, Christian Ferras, Wolfgang Marschner, and Max Rostal. From 1995 to 1997, Demetrius Polyzoides was the first violinist (Primarius) of the Leonardo Quartet Cologne and since 1997 has been the Primarius of the Cologne String Sextet. He actively performs in numerous concerts and can be heard as a soloist and chamber musician on many radio, television, and CD recordings across Europe and Asia. As a soloist, he has appeared with the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra, Vienna Chamber Philharmonic, Graz Symphony Orchestra, State Orchestra of Thessaloniki, and the Camerata of the Music Friends in Athens, among others. Since 1989, Demetrius Polyzoides has been a member of the Gürzenich Orchestra Cologne.
