Johannes Seidl
Johannes Seidl initially studied violin at the University of Music and Performing Arts Munich before beginning jazz studies at the Richard Strauss Conservatory in Munich. He later switched to major in classical double bass with Caius Oana. At the University of Music in Nuremberg, he completed both his artistic diploma with distinction and his master class diploma under Dorin Marc.
Since August 2001, Johannes Seidl has been the principal double bassist of the Gürzenich Orchestra Cologne. In addition, he regularly performs as a soloist and chamber musician; among other performances, he played Serge Koussevitzky’s Concerto for Double Bass and Orchestra with the Gürzenich Orchestra Cologne.
As an educator, he is actively involved with the Orchestral Academy of North Rhine-Westphalia in Dortmund and the German National Youth Orchestra (Junge Deutsche Philharmonie). From 2010 to 2011, Johannes Seidl held a guest professorship at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Graz.
