Rudi Winkler

Viola

Rudi Winkler began playing the violin at the age of five. At the specialized music school “Schloss Belvedere” in Weimar, he discovered the viola through chamber music. He completed his studies with distinction under Diemut Poppen in 2003. Rudi Winkler has played with the Mahler Chamber Orchestra and the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin. He was engaged as solo violist for the Lucerne Festival Academy, served as deputy solo violist at the Landesbühnen Sachsen, and has been a member of the Gürzenich Orchestra Cologne since 2009. In addition to his orchestral work, he has been dedicated to historically informed performance practice since 2008. He is currently deepening these studies with Stephan Schardt, former concertmaster of the renowned ensemble Musica Antiqua Köln.
