Sakari Oramo

He recently extended his contract as Principal Conductor of the BBC Symphony Orchestra until 2030 and regularly guest conducts orchestras such as the Berliner Philharmoniker, the Gewandhaus Orchestra Leipzig, the Czech Philharmonic, the NDR Elbphilharmonie Hamburg and the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France. His programmes often include new commissions, British music and female composers, this season featuring the French premiere of Saariaho's latest work »Hush«, Glanerts Harfenkonzert, Damströms »Ice«, Weirs »The Welcome Arrival of Rain« und Beamishs »Distans«. 

Throughout his career, Oramo has held numerous prestigious positions: From 1998 to 2008, he was Music Director of the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, from 2003 to 2012 Principal Conductor of the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra and Principal Conductor of the West Coast Kokkola Opera, and from 2008 to 2021 Principal Conductor of the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra. An accomplished violinist, Oramo was originally concertmaster of the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra. Oramo's extensive discography includes recordings of Dora Pejačević's Piano Concerto and Symphony in F sharp minor with the BBC Symphony Orchestra, works by Ravel with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, and Rued Langgaard's Symphony No. 1 with the Berliner Philharmoniker. He has also recorded all of Sibelius' symphonies with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, all of Nielsen's and Schumann's symphonies with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, and numerous works by Kaija Saariaho and Magnus Lindberg with various orchestras.

His catalogue's successes include the BBC Music Magazine Orchestra Award for Nielsen: Symphonies Nos. 1 & 3 with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, a 2019 Gramophone Award for Laangaard: Symphonies Nos. 2 & 6 with the Vienna Philharmonic and soprano Anu Komsi, and a 2020 International Classical Music Award for Busoni: Piano Concerto with the Boston Symphony Orchestra and Kirill Gerstein.
