Sebastian Poyault

The Franco-German oboist Sebastian Poyault trained under Prof. Klaus Becker in Hanover and Horst Eppendorf in Cologne. During his studies, he won the Richard Lauschmann Competition and was twice awarded the German Music Council’s scholarship as the best in his discipline, as well as being selected for the »Bundesauswahl Konzerte Junger Künstler« (Federal Selection of Concerts for Young Artists).

At the age of 24, he was appointed principal oboist in the orchestra of the Komische Oper Berlin, before moving to the Saarland State Orchestra, the German State Philharmonic Orchestra of Rhineland-Palatinate, the Braunschweig State Orchestra and, finally, in 2015, to the Gürzenich Orchestra Cologne.

He appears as a guest conductor with renowned symphony and opera orchestras, including the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Hamburg State Orchestra and the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra. As a soloist, he has delighted audiences with the Bergische Sinfoniker, the Cologne Chamber Orchestra and the Orchestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg.

The ARD Competition prize-winner has a particular passion for chamber music. At the heart of this work is his ensemble, the Acelga Quintet. With them, he performs at major concert series throughout Germany and Europe, such as the Rheingau Music Festival, the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Festival and the Leipzig Bach Festival, and has made numerous radio recordings for WDR, SWR, BR, SR and Deutschlandradio.
