Vincent Royer

Viola

Vincent Royer studied viola in Strasbourg, Freiburg, and Cologne. He is deeply dedicated to chamber music in various ensembles. His particular focus lies on contemporary music—both as a performer and composer. In 1991, he received the Prix Xenakis in Paris; in 1995, he was awarded the "La Bourse Lavoisier," a scholarship from the French Ministry of Culture for an artist residency at the Banff Centre for the Arts in Canada. In close collaboration with composers such as Gérard Grisey, Pascal Dusapin, Horatiu Radulescu, Luc Ferrari, Jean-Luc Fafchamps, Fabrizzio Cassol, Claude Ledoux, Vinko Globokar, Robert Platz, and Michael Riessler, Vincent Royer has developed a wide-ranging solo and chamber music repertoire and performs worldwide. His CDs featuring music by Luc Ferrari, Jean-Luc Fafchamps, and Giacinto Scelsi have each received the prestigious French award "Coups de Cœur" from the Académie Charles Cros. Since 2010, Vincent Royer has taught chamber music as a professor at the Conservatoire Royal de Liège. He has been a member of the Gürzenich Orchestra since 1990.
