Vincent Royer studied viola in Strasbourg, Freiburg and Cologne. He devotes himself intensively to chamber music in various ensembles. His special commitment is to new music - as a performer as well as a composer. In 1991 he received the Prix Xenakis Paris, in 1995 "La Bourse Lavoisier", a scholarship from the French Ministry of Culture for an artist residency at the "Banff Centre for the Arts" Canada. In close collaboration with composers such as Gérard Grisey, Pascal Dusapin, Horatiu Radulescu, Luc Ferrari, Jean-Luc Fafchamps, Fabrizzio Cassol, Claude Ledoux, Vinko Globokar, Robert Platz or Michael Riessler, Vincent Royer develops a wide solo and chamber music repertoire and gives guest performances all over the world. His CDs with music by Luc Ferrari, Jean-Luc Fafchamps and Giacinto Scelsi each received the prestigious French "Coups de Cœur" award from the Académie Charles Cros. Since 2010 Vincent Royer teaches as professor of chamber music at the Conservatoire Royal de Liège. He has been a member of the Gürzenich Orchestra since 1990.
