Violin Concerto in E minor op. 64 (1844)

Richard Wagner / Henk de Vlieger

The Ring. An orchestral adventure
 (1848–74/1991)

Introduction one hour before the concert with Michael Kube

Wagner’s »The Ring of the Nibelung« has always had a polarising effect, today no less than during his lifetime. Many have surrendered in the face of this colossal opus which conjures up a whole mythical world of gods and mortals, giants and dwarfs, in 16 hours and four operas. Henk de Vlieger’s solution: An »Orchestral Adventure« that fits the whole Ring tetralogy into a musical nutshell of 70 minutes. This arrangement for orchestra boils down Wagner’s musical tale to its essence and creates an opera just for the ears. Former Gürzenich Kapellmeister Markus Stenz, an esteemed conductor of Wagner, guides the orchestra through this adventure. Alina Ibragimova’s performance promises to be equally exciting. Her playing is internationally acclaimed to be charming, intense and vibrant – just the right mixture for Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto which will be her debut with the Gürzenich Orchestra.
