Overcoming cultural differences and combining musical languages - that was the idea and challenge that inspired Lukas Ligeti to write his »Suite for Burkina Electric and Orchestra«. The internationally renowned ensemble Burkina Electric combines West African musical tradition with avant-garde concepts and Afro-pop, electronics and modern dance. The Gürzenich Orchestra Cologne plays on classical European instruments. Ligeti's suite is a kaleidoscope of colours and contrasts that open up spaces and merge into the common. The programme is complemented by an early South African orchestral piece, the symphonic poem »Fatše La Heso« by composer Michael Mosoeu Moerane from Lesotho.
