»But where are we going?« Ingeborg Bachmann asks in her poem »Reklame« [advertisement]. A man and a woman ask themselves the same question. They are in Cologne’s Philharmonic Hall together with many other concert-goers, with the Gürzenich Orchestra and its General Music Director Francois-Xavier Roth. »But what happens?« The music begins, picks up speed: a blustering auditory voyage on the high seas. Departure to new worlds? Or an odyssey to familiar shores? In the concluding part of his Cologne trilogy, Philippe Manoury assembles voices, instruments and electronics to catch a glimpse of our ever-changing world »by all available technological means«. He is developing his »Lab.Oratorium« together with director Nicolas Stemann: a staged concert where they take the audience along on a grand journey. From the cradle of Europe to present-day beaches, where people on the move meet: »My dear brother, when will we build a raft to float down the sky on? « After the Cologne premiere, the Gürzenich Orchestra will present this great new work to an international audience outside of Cologne, namely at the Musikfest Hamburg and the opening of the »Manifeste« festival in Paris.
