Bohuslav Martinů Concerto for Oboe and Small Orchestra (1955)

Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy

Symphony No. 3 in A minor op. 56 Scottish (1842)

Introduction 50 minutes before the start of the concert on the gallery

Even on paper, that reads like an out-and-out Gürzenich concert: a symphonic highlight by an ingenious composer, an imaginative virtuoso solo, and something else brand-new for good measure. The Colombian conductor Andrés Orozco-Estrada is inviting you to join a musical voyage of discovery. Together with renowned South Korean composer Unsuk Chin, we will set off to explore landscapes of sound never heard before; with the exceptional French oboist François Leleux we’ll cut across the countryside for an arch and playful concerto by the Czech Martinů; and then onwards through the fog of the Scottish Highlands with Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy, full of wanderlust and zest for adventure.

The concert will be followed by a meet & greet with Andrés Orozco-Estrada in the visitors' foyer of the Kölner Philharmonie.
